Dear Academy Learners,

This week marks the halfway point of our 12-week term, which ends at 5:00 pm on Monday, March 29. If you are currently working toward certification (or re-certification), plan to manage your time and course load accordingly. Course posttests and evaluations must be completed prior to the end of the term.

Justice Peers in NYC Meeting – an Academy Continuing Education (CE) Course

This week we launched another CE course based on a community meeting about a Justice Peers initiative in NYC. The goal of the meeting was to gather input from the community to help guide the initiative and to gauge interest among participants in joining working groups. Five breakout sessions were held. In the course, you will hear facilitator experts discuss their involvement in the initiative and introduce the purpose of each session.

Register for the course Justice Peers in NYC Meeting under the Continuing Education category in the Academy. You can earn 1.0 hour of CE credit for successfully completing the course and posttest.

The course provides background helpful for recent developments related to peer support in justice settings, including two meetings in March you won’t want to miss. Save these dates and sign up if you want to get involved.

·        March 11, 10:30-12:00, Eastern, NYC Justice Peers Community Meeting | RSVP

Talking About Tobacco

This Thursday, the Academy’s Virtual Learning Community hosts the first in a planned series of webinars in which Amanda Saake, Susan Friedlander, LaVerne Daisy Miller, Gina Calhoun, and Regina Shoen discuss why a peer support-oriented discussion about tobacco use is an important conversation to have. Session 1 of Talking About Tobacco focuses on the need for peer supporters with tobacco use experience to step forward as champions for themselves and others.
